Privacy Policy
Last updated
This Privacy Policy explains what information Whatsdafont (“we”, “us”) collects when you use our website, how we use it, and the choices you have.
The short version: we don’t save the images you upload, you don’t need an account, and we don’t sell your personal information.
Who we are
Whatsdafont is a free font identification website run by [your name or business name], based in [country]. You can contact us at [email protected].
The images you upload
When you add an image to the font identifier, your browser first shrinks it on your own device, and crops it if you drew a box around the text. The smaller image is then sent once to our server, which passes it straight to our AI provider. The AI reads the letter shapes and suggests matching fonts.
The image is only handled in memory. We don’t save it to our server or database, we don’t keep a copy after your results appear, and we don’t use it for anything else.
Our AI provider is currently Google (the Gemini API). Google processes your image to produce the result under the Google Privacy Policy. [Keep this sentence only if you use Gemini’s free tier: Because we use Google’s free service tier, Google may use submitted images and results to improve its products, and they may be reviewed by people.]
Please don’t upload images that contain personal or sensitive information, such as documents, ID cards or photos of people. The tool only needs the lettering.
Font previews
We show your matches using fonts loaded from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com). When your browser loads them, Google receives your IP address and basic browser information, as it would from any website that uses Google Fonts. We don’t host or store font files.
Information collected automatically
Server logs. Like almost every website, our server records basic technical details for each visit: your IP address, browser type, the page you asked for, the page you came from, and the date and time. We use these logs to keep the site running and secure, and delete them routinely within 30 days.
Abuse protection. To stop automated abuse of the font identifier, we keep a scrambled, one-way code made from your IP address for up to one hour. We use it only to count how many identifications have been run. It can’t be turned back into your IP address, and it is deleted automatically. We also keep a site-wide daily total of identifications, which contains no personal information.
Cookies and advertising
Whatsdafont is free because it is supported by ads from Google AdSense.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this website or other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
- You can opt out of personalized advertising in Google’s Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some other vendors’ cookies at aboutads.info/choices (US) or youronlinechoices.eu (EU).
- Learn more in How Google uses information from sites that use its services.
Visitors in the European Economic Area (EEA), the UK and Switzerland are asked for their consent before personalized ads are shown.
WordPress cookies. If you leave a comment, you can choose to save your name, email address and website in cookies so you don’t have to type them again. These cookies last one year. Visitors who only browse the site and use the tool don’t receive WordPress cookies.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand how people use the site, such as which pages are popular and how visitors find us. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects information such as the pages you view, your approximate location, and your device and browser. We only look at this information in combined, statistical form. You can opt out with Google’s Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
Comments
If you comment on an article, we collect the name, email address and website you enter. We also collect your IP address and browser details to help detect spam. A scrambled code made from your email address may be sent to the Gravatar service to check whether you have a profile picture. We keep comments indefinitely so that your later comments can be approved automatically. You can ask us to delete yours at any time.
How we use information
We use information to:
- run the font identifier and show you results;
- keep the site secure and prevent abuse;
- show the ads that fund the site;
- understand and improve the site.
Our legal basis for running the tool, security and analytics is our legitimate interest in providing a working, safe website. For personalized ads (and, where required, analytics), the basis is your consent.
We do not sell your personal information for money. Our advertising partners may use cookies for personalized ads as described above, and you can opt out using the links in that section.
Who we share information with
- Our AI provider (Google), to identify the fonts in your image.
- Google, for AdSense ads, Google Analytics and Google Fonts, as described above.
- Our hosting provider, which runs the servers the site is stored on.
- Authorities, if the law requires us to.
International transfers
Our service providers may process information in countries other than yours, including the United States. Where the law requires it, they use recognized safeguards such as the EU’s Standard Contractual Clauses.
How long we keep information
- Uploaded images: not kept. They are discarded as soon as your results are returned.
- Abuse-protection code: up to one hour.
- Server logs: 30 days.
- Comments: until you ask us to remove them.
- Ad and analytics data: according to Google’s own retention settings.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, for example in the EU, the UK or California, you may have the right to:
- see the personal information we hold about you;
- correct it or delete it;
- object to or restrict how we use it;
- withdraw your consent.
Because we don’t keep your images or require accounts, we usually hold very little information about you. To make a request, email [email protected]. If you are in the EU or UK, you can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
Whatsdafont is not aimed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA), and we don’t knowingly collect their personal information.
Security
Every connection to Whatsdafont is encrypted with HTTPS, and we keep our software up to date. No website can be completely secure, but we keep the information we collect to a minimum.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page shows when it last changed.
